How renting a neighbour's car works here

    1. 1. AI prices the days and the kilometres against real local rates.
    2. 2. Both of you sign one identical agreement — same digest, two keys.
    3. 3. Your own rail proves the money exists. Nothing is frozen.
    4. 4. 30% at handover, 30% halfway, 40% when the car is back and checked.

    Straight answers

    • Does ZEM hold my money?

Never. Your own rail attests the total is covered, then pays the host directly in three steps: 30% at handover, 30% halfway, 40% at return.

    • What about the deposit?

It is an attestation plus a signed promise, not a hold. Nothing is frozen on your card and no card number reaches ZEM.

    • Who decides if something is damaged?

Both walk-arounds are hashed into the pact. If you disagree, the Disputes room runs the same neutral AI arbitration used for rides.

    • What if I drive further than agreed?

The odometer delta at return prices the overage at the per-km rate you both signed. No surprise line items.
